The programme is based on actual lost artifacts and allows young viewers to learn about history as they get caught up in the drama of the heros solving clues and outwitting the baddies. Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the first episode was broadcast nationally on public broadcasting television stations in the USA as a tie in with Columbus Day. Animation was produced at Bay Area studio Ghostbot. Lost Treasure Hunt has been nominated for 2 Emmys- Outstanding New Approaches – Original Daytime Program or Series and Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program.
